David Mills studied art at the University of Maryland University College and the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC, and returned to UMUC as an art instructor. He is also a self-taught welder and potter: a foundation of traditional academics combined with technical knowledge and experience from which Mills embarks upon a variety of artistic endeavors including paintings, sculptures, large scale installations, mixed media pieces, and mural commissions. Now located in Austin, Mills produces semi-abstracted images that include depictions of American industrialism, capitalism, labor, entrepreneurism, and patriotism. His latest series abstracts the aging relics of the automobile industry, capturing the essence of the country’s industrial heyday and the proud workforce that fueled the quintessentially American culture that followed.

“This was the world as it was introduced to me,” said Mills. “This country, the foundation that it was built upon, the people who have lived and died for it, deserve our steadfast adherence to and participation in the pioneering enterprise that ambitiously spawned a new nation. This is the feeling and message I strive to deliver.”

David Mills’ works have been accepted in numerous exhibitions including at the University of Maryland, the Howard County Arts Council, the Mill River Gallery in Ellicott City, MD, the Artists Museum in Washington, DC, and Discovery Galleries in the greater Washington, DC, area.
